Welcome Tae the FAQ Page

Here you will find the rantings of a Download Addict for Sims for Mac. It is a hard addiction but we have all once upon a time succumbed to the magic that is the wide wild world of Sims and the fansites which produce the downloads which, in turn, make the game worth while having.

However- we Mac users do have to pay extra attention. Not only do we have to know how to add stuff to our games but we also need to know how to alter skin downloads in order for them to work on our machines.

The reason for this is that the Macintosh, until recently did not recognise more than 31 characters of a file name. And that meant that a file name would be "truncated" (lose its ending) rendering it unusable. Now that we live in the age of a Unix based OSX WE can at least see the file names as PC users intended them. However... Our games still cannot.

I give you the FAQ!

FAQ For Downloading

Excerpt:
"1. I have seen loads of cool things for the sims- can I add them to my game on the Mac?

A: Yes, you can. Most everything that PC users can use we can use. Really only their editing applications are not going to work. We need our own programmes.

2. What do I do when I see something I’d like to add to my Sims game?

A: Download it and then deal with it in one of two ways- add to your game after unzipping or unzip it- do a couple of alterations and THEN add to your game.

Sorting those Skins

Here it is- the mystery of McB's Sims Downloads folder revealed. I know I manage to make it sound a lot more complex than it is and so I give you the short version. Albeit in two formats... MWUAHAHAHA!

You may download the RTFD version if you are on OSX or have Text Edit (or can do this anyway). By using this RTFD (the one with EMBEDDED images of my desktop) version you will see it as I intended it. *wink, wink*

Or you may download the RTF version which anyone ought to be able to open BUT you will also need to open the 4 images it comes with. Rich Text Files (RTF) cannot embed images you see...
